Does Lip Liner Really Make A Difference?
Yes, ladies it does! I was never a user of lip liner until about a few months ago. You could say that I was on that forever long matte lipstick train (I still am, let’s be honest). Then Fenty Beauty dropped the universal Gloss Bomb and the rest is history. I started introducing gloss back into my makeup routine after shunning it for so long. Side note, matte lipstick does not usually bleed so I never needed a lip liner. When I started using lip gloss again I noticed that it would spread past my lips in a couple of hours and I would look like that disastrous trend from last year – lollipop lips. After playing around with how to get my lip gloss to stay intact, a ding when off in my head to use lip liner. So here we are! What once what I though was an outdated lip product, is not, and truly never was. I want to give my sincerest apologies to lip liner and all its users – this stuff is fantastic!
Below I wanted to share all the incredible things that lip liner can do:
First thing to note is that lip liner is to lipstick what primer is to foundation. It is the base, the building block that helps achieve the final look. It makes your lipstick last longer and look better.
- If you have lips that are slightly uneven or on the thinner side, line those babies up! Use a color that is a bit darker than you natural lip shade. By doing this your lips will immediately look fuller and have more definition. Do not over line your lips, stay within the natural shape because it is very obvious where you natural lips end.
- If your lipstick has a satin or shiny finish, lip liner is your bff. Shiny lipsticks bleed more than matte – this I know for a fact. To keep your glosses intact and not spread like melted butter, line your lips up and lightly color them in also. The waxy lip liner acts as a binder holding the lipstick in place for a few more hours. Lastly, apply your lippie as usual. The staying power is glorious here.
- Don’t have time to apply lip liner and lipstick then just use lip liner. Liners are usually matte and can be used in place of a lipstick. Using a skinny liner will take you aged to color in your lips. Opt for a thicker pencil, like:
