How to Extend the Wear of Your Makeup Products
It’s pretty much become my personal quest to help my makeup last as long as I can. Some days, I work and then I have events right after work. Whatever looks I’ve created in the morning often have to last well on into the evening, as I ( like so many other working women) am always on the go.
Here are some tips and tricks to help you keep your looks lasting longer:
Exfoliating once or twice a week, or using a good exfoliating cleanser helps smooth the surface of your skin. In addition to it keeping your skin healthier, it also provides a better “canvas” for your products to go on. The important part of this is to use a moisturizer which suits your skin type.
3. Use Primers.
Primers not only lock in your serums and moisturizers, but it creates an even and ideal surface for your color correcting products, concealer and foundation. It helps keep your foundation from being absorbed, which makes the products last longer. The tricky thing about Primers is finding one that suits your skin type. If you’re oily, you want to go with a primer that mattifies and controls oil. MUA has a lot of great options: MUA Pro Base Moisturizing Primer ( for normal to dry skin ), MUA Professional Wonder Vanishing Cream Primer, MUA Skin Define Hydro Primer, and MUA Skin Define Matte Perfect Primer ( which is my pick for oily skin ). If you have to pick just one product from this list, I would definitely say go with the Primer.
4. Use Setting Sprays
These have proven to be little miracles for me! Applying a setting spray after you’ve finished your look seals the deal and locks in your masterpiece. If you’re not sure where to begin, MUA has some great formulas. I really like MUA Pro Fixing Mist as well as the Pro-Base Mattify Fixing Mist for oily skin types. This is one of my most favorite products to have, and I always make sure I have a bottle in my makeup kit.
5. Try not to touch your face and blot rather than reapply
One of the things I tend to do too much is touch my face during the day. Doing this smudges makeup and wipes formulas away. Also, if you blot throughout the day rather than reapply, you absorb excess oils and sebums. This is better than reapplying, because if you keep adding layers of makeup on, your look will start to become caky and overdone.
