How to Get the Most Out of Your Body Scrub
Body Scrubs are one of those skincare essentials that tend to get overlooked or pushed to the side. I admit that I don’t use one as often as I should, but that is changing today!
Seriously, though, there is nothing better than a good exfoliation session. Whether it’s for your body or your skin, a good exfoliating scrub helps to keep skin healthy and glowing. Our body skin is just as important as our facial skin, which is why we should make it a point to care for it properly as much as we do our face.
There are definitely ways that you can make sure that you’re getting the most out of your body scrubs.
Makes sure your skin is softened
You definitely want to make sure your skin is completely wet. Use lukewarm water instead of hot water, because hot water dries out your skin. Then you want to apply the scrub using your hands or your favorite bath sponge. I like to do mine in sections; beginning with the legs. Put a liberal amount of product on your hands or sponge, then use circular motions to massage it onto your skin. Do this until you’ve scrubbed your entire body.
Afterward, you want to make sure that you follow up with a moisturizing body lotion.
Less is more; you definitely don’t want to over use body scrubs
Our skin is delicate, so you really should only be using your body scrub once or twice a week. The main purpose of these types of products is to exfoliate layers of dead skin. Body skin is just like our facial skin; it will show signs of aging if we don’t care for it properly. Exfoliating is definitely a part of your skin care regime that you don’t want to skip out on.
Too much exfoliation can actually do more harm than good. It can damage the healthy and living layers if over done. I would definitely recommend using a regular body wash in between your exfoliating one. That way, you’re keeping your skin clean and healthy at the same time.
Exfoliation is the main benefit of body scrubs, because they aide in sloughing off dead skin cells. This will promote clearer and softer skin. Some even have built-in moisturizing benefits as well.
You don’t have to apply a lotion after using a body scrub, but it helps
When you exfoliate, your skin has been perfectly prepped for your moisturizer to provide maximum benefit. By applying a lotion right after using a body scrub, it will penetrate the layers of skin easier and lock in more moisture.
