If You’re Not Using a Mask, You Really Should Be!

Masks are vital to a proper skincare routine, regardless of what season it is or what type of skin you have. Thanks to the rise of K-Beauty, sheet masks are more widely used than they have been in years past.

Until just recently, I had no idea what a sheet mask was or how to use one.  Sheet Masks have become so popular, nearly every beauty brand has released their own branded version of this must have skincare item. There are sheet masks to suit pretty much every need skincare wise. These mighty masks also range in pricing from very reasonable to luxe.

What exactly are sheet masks? In a nutshell, they are precut fabrics which come individually packaged and loaded with serums and active ingredients. There is no having to mix anything or apply this mask with a brush, and much less cleanup afterward. You simply take the mask from the package, line up the  openings correctly on your face, leave for the recommended amount of time, then remove the sheet and throw it away. Since these masks already come pre-cut with eye, nose and lip holes ( as well as cuts around the edges to help the mask fit properly onto your face), there is no guesswork involved whatsoever.

You can also use the leftover serum in the packaging on your neck and chest, which will give you a more seamless age-defying look. Most of us forget about our neck and chest, which is unfortunate, because these are also areas which tend to age more rapidly than the rest of our body. Skimping out on the neck area specifically can actually take away from your overall look.

The materials that sheet masks are made from vary from cotton, non-woven and gel. Most people get started with the non-woven kind, because they are cheaper and there are many to choose from across different brand offerings. Gel masks are excellent and live up to their hype, although these tend to be very expensive. I suggest starting small and then working your way up to the gel masks. You really should ( ideally) have a good skincare and anti-aging routine before using a gel sheet mask in my opinion. This is because you’ll get more benefits and will be able to see the results more if your skin is already cleansed, exfoliated and hydrated on a consistent basis.

Sheet masks aren’t miracle workers or substitutes for other skincare products. In fact, I don’t recommend using them on a daily basis or in place of your other products. These are meant to act as a supplement to your current routine, not as every day use. However, that’s just my opinion, and I have seen the proof in my own skin when it comes to masks only and masks added to a strong daily regimen.

After using a sheet mask,  you don’t need to wash off the serum left on the surface of your face. What you want to do is gradually massage the serum residue into your skin and allow it to be absorbed naturally. Washing your face after removing the sheet mask is actually counterproductive and stands to undue all of the benefits the mask has just delivered to your skin.

If you’re new to sheet masks and don’t know quite where to start, I suggest checking out Evoluderm’s sheet masks. They are budget friendly, effective and manufactured completely in France. They also contain all natural ingredients, which is an extra bonus.

Here is a run down of the sheet masks offered by Evoluderm:

  1. Evoluderm Moisturizing Sheet Mask: If you’re in need of something to alleviate dry skin, this is a good mask to go with. Not only does it moisturize and plump skin, but active ingredient Aloe Vera provides soothing and healing properties as well. Hyaluronic Acid, a moisture binding agent, reduces the signs of tightness and dehydration.
  2. Evoluderm Anti-Aging Sheet Mask:  For those of us who are wanting to see more of a “lift” in our face, would do well to choose this mask. Active ingredient Collagen helps reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles. This mask also smooths and revitalizes your skin.
  3. Evoluderm Whitening Sheet Mask: This is the mask I would recommend to anyone who is seeking a product to unify skin texture. Evoluderm’s use of Alpine Plants as an active ingredient in this mask is amazing, because these active ingredients illuminate your skin and give you the appearance of a healthy glow.
  4. Evoluderm Detox Sheet Mask:  Active Botanical Charcoal, which is widely used for detox, is  the sole active ingredient in this mask. It will assist in removing impurities and unclogging pores, thus giving you a more radiant complexion.
