L’Oreal x Balmain: The Designer Collab We Are Lusting Over
Okay, holdup everyone. Can we please take a moment and thank the fashion gods for bestowing upon us this fire beauty collaboration! I will be the first to admit I love the finer things in life, but my pay grade doesn’t necessarily allow me to indulge in the luxurious lifestyle of a Russian oligarch. Having said that we don’t have to be bazillionaires to enjoy extravagance anymore. We have entered the era where lux and affordability have collided – the era of collaborations. We are seeing amazing collabs in all sectors of the beauty world: Phillip Lim x Target, Versace x H&M, Louis Vuitton x Supreme, and Victoria Beckham x Reebok. All the aforementioned are great and all, but I am biased towards makeup and they do not ooze lux, and sex appeal like L’Oreal x Balmain.
The French luxury fashion house has teamed up with global mega brand L’Oreal Paris creating a seductive line of matte lipsticks. If you are not familiar with Balmain let me sprinkle you with some history. The fashion house was created in 1946, meaning it has been around for over 70 years. The founder, Pierre Balmain, was always surrounded by artistic people. His father owned a drapery business and his sister headed a fashion boutique. Balmain attended college originally studying architecture, but later dropped out because all his time was spent at his sister’s boutique designing dresses. He was such a successful designer he was coined the “king of French fashion” in the 1950s. He dressed everyone from famous actresses to first ladies. His vision and force was undeniable in the fashion world.
Balmain had many great successors after his death in 1982. The most notable is Oscar de la Renta, who brought a sense of fame to the brand because he was already famous in the fashion industry. The next best thing to happen to Balmain was the arrival of fresh and young designer Oliver Rousteing. At the age of 24 in 2011 he became the head designer. He still currently the head desinger and catapulting the brand to new heights. At 32 Rousteing has revived Balmain through social media most notably through Instagram where Balmain is the only French fashion house that has over 1 million followers. Rousteing is refreshingly unique in the French fashion scene in terms of him being a young ethnic man. He knew in order to take Balmain to soaring heights things need to be shaken up.
In 2015 the first Balmain collaboration was born with H&M, the Swedish fast fashion retailer. Which leads us all the way to 2017/2018 L’Oreal x Balmain collab. Both mega brands in their own right, also both born in France collaborated and made a sultry collection of chic lipsticks that would be accessible to all. It is so exciting to see this collection hit Pakistan. So without making you wait any longer checkout these five amazing matte lipsticks that are absolutely divine:
