Makeup Mistakes That Unnecessarily Add Years to Your Face

Aging is inevitable–it is a fact of life, after all! As we get older, there are certain things we outgrow, like Disney movies and fairytales. Although, the quest for looking eternally young is a completely different story that we will never stop believing in, am I right ladies? (We can all now empathize with the evil queen in Snow White.) So, whether it is an anti-aging skin regimen, a youth-boosting diet, or a cosmetic treatment, if it delays the aging process in way, we’ll take it–regardless of age really.

There is, however, one major thing that we might be overlooking: our makeup routines. While we’re over here spending our paychecks on cutting-edge plumping serums and rejuvenating masks, it turns out that there are certain things in our beauty routine that actually cancel them out. Applying the wrong products or the right ones in incorrect places is a fool-proof way to appear older than you really are. Since no one deserves to look prematurely aged because of a little misplaced eyeliner or using the wrong the powder–especially when taking drastic efforts to stay as youthful-looking as possible–we’ve helped determine which techniques and habits tend to enhance fine lines and age spots, as well as the best ways to use makeup to your advantage. These are the makeup mistakes that are dragging your face down and unnecessarily aging you:

  1. Watch out for lipstick that migrates. You see, as we age, the natural lip line begins to fade. This makes lipstick more prone to bleeding and feathering. Tracing it with a clear lip liner and applying a primer before lipstick application helps the color stay put. The E.L.F. Lip Primer & Plumper does the trick. The duo creates an even base on the lips, filling in tiny lines and eliminating dryness.
  2. Plain and simple, you are probably using the wrong foundation. There are two main factors: your foundation is too thick and/or you are using the wrong color. In regards to the latter, any color that is a little off can add on years and exaggerate fine lines. So, the closer it matches your skin tone, the fresher the effect. Moreover, heavy makeup can make your face look less youthful and glowy. To prevent this, choose a sheer foundation or tinted moisturizer like the Nars Velvet Matte Skin Tint Broad Spectrum SPF 30. I know, I know, sheer and matte don’t often go hand in hand, but this skin tint helps control shine all day and gives your skin a pillowy, soft, and young appearance. Best of all, it doesn’t feel greasy or cakey like many skin tints with heavier coverage–and you don’t even need powder!
  3. Don’t forget blush on the apples of the cheeks! Applying color on the highest point on your cheekbones (not too close to the nose) and lifting upward with a brush that is large enough to cover the whole cheekbone takes the attention away from sagging skin. Also, keep the shade choice in mind and don’t overdo things by choosing an extremely bright, powdery, or glittery finish. Neutral rose shades flatter all skin tones and really add a natural, youthful flush to the face. Try Tarte’s Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush if you are looking to brighten things up.
  4. You’ve got to have the right lipstick in tow. Bright colors, dark shades, and anything metallic or iridescent are just too heavy for thinning lips. Instead, chose a neutral rose shade, just like you would do with your blush. Also, consider switching from a lipstick to a sheer gloss, as it will give you more fullness. RiRi’s Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer will get the job done–and have you looking as beautiful, glowy and youthful as the badgal herself 😉

I hope that you ladies have taken notes on the beauty blunders that are high key making you look older than you really are. And by notes I mean restocking your shopping carts with all of the youthful looking makeup products mentioned up. There’s no excuse, fixing your mistakes is easy with I trust you ladies will be looking fresher, dewier, and more glowy than ever before!
