Review: Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina Palette
Were you one of the people who squealed with delight when Anastasia Beverly Hills released their Norvina palette? If you are, then you’re not alone. This is one of the dreamiest, unicorn inspired palettes on the market. It contains high quality pigments which blend well and long wearing beauty.
First, before I discuss the palette, I would like to showcase a little bit about the brand’s rich history. Anastasia Beverly Hills was launched as a brow product brand in 1998. Until I started researching the company, I had no idea this brand had been around since the late nineties. I just assumed it was a newer brand ( like many other people I know). Anastasia Soare and her company have been dubbed the undisputed rulers of Instagram, according to WWD. They have the highest earned media value on the platform which says a lot, considering how Instagram has become such a leviathan in regards to the beauty world. They have almost double earned the presence of MAC, which is another makeup industry giant.
When Anastasia came to LA from Romania, she initially took a job as an aesthetician. She had a strong passion for sculpting eyebrows, one which her then employer didn’t share. After failing to convince said employer that eyebrows were the key to changing the entire look of the face, she decided to go into business of her own. The early days consisted of Anastasia operating out of a rented room in a salon.
Eventually, word of mouth spread and she soon found herself creating looks for Vogue, the Kardashian family and countless supermodels as well as appearing on Oprah Winfrey’s show. This was the beginning of Anastasia Beverly Hills. The company continued to grow from there and in recent years has exploded. This is mainly thanks to her strong reputation and celebrity clients ( like the Kardashians ) who constantly laud the products on their own social media channels. Since then, as we all now know, ABH has expanded beyond brow products into eye and lip products. The brands palettes are well loved on Instagram and are constantly being featured and re-grammed by ABH fans worldwide.
Back to the Norvina palette:
In case you were wondering about the name, the Norvina palette is named after Claudia Norvina Soare, Anastasia Beverly Hills Brand President. She is also the daughter of Anastasia Soare, the founder of ABH.
The palette contains fourteen shades: all mattes and shimmers, which is a first for the brand. Normally, Anastasia Beverly Hills doesn’t include as many shimmers in their palettes as they did with this one. Claudia was the driving force behind adding more shimmer due to her personal romance with shimmery eyeshadow looks.
Fun fact: the inspiration for the palette came from a Disney parade. Claudia said she loves how the fantasy of the colors in the palette allow her to appear as if she is a performer in a Disney parade. It’s also very wearable, which she points out is truly the most important aspect of this palette. It truly is wearable, despite the fantasy based bright colors. I’ve seen all kinds of looks created with this palette from dramatic to low key, and they all look absolutely gorgeous. This palette is a predominantly purple toned palette, which looks beautiful on all skin tones; especially darker tones.
