Nail art is an area I’m really passionate about. I don’t know exactly what it is that draws me to nail art, but I am constantly watching videos that feature talented nail artists showing off their craft.

However, I will be honest and say that lately I’ve become pretty obsessed with nail decals and press on/artificial nails. This is purely for the sheer ease these mediums offer.

Painting your nails doesn’t come easy to everyone, regardless of what some may think. It’s actually a skill which takes lots of time and practice. There are many reasons for this, mainly because it takes a while to become apt at painting within “the lines” and also because nail polish isn’t regular paint. It’s lacquer, so it functions differently than regular artist paint.

Every type of paint and liquid color material has a different drying time, consistency and ideal application method. Most of the errors I’ve made with nail polish come down to not applying the product correctly.

However, there is a lot to be said for nail decals and press on nails. First, they’re polished and ready to go, so it’s faster. Second, there are brands which have longer lasting formulas. There is a learning curve to these products also, however, so you definitely want to make sure you don’t try to apply these at the last minute or right before a huge event.

Sometimes it helps to go online and check out trending looks and styles before you buy. I admit, sometimes I get really excited about styles and cute looks, but I don’t really know what materials I need or what all goes into these looks. Lucky for us, there are many different bloggers and Youtubers who are more than willing to break down their favorite looks and detail what all kinds of materials you need to create them.

Another pitfall I tend to repeat is choosing colors which appeal to me at the time rather than colors which will create a specific look or match a part of my wardrobe. You don’t have to pre-plan what nail polish color you’re going to invest in since it’s so versatile, however, it’s a good idea if you’re doing a color combination look.

The number one rule when it comes to nail art and design is to have fun and do what makes you happy.

Here are some Nail Art Products I enjoy, and I think you will too:

  1. KISS Gel Fantasy Nails Cyan Silver Glitter: I love the color of these, as well as the dainty silver embellishments. These are really simple to apply. They come with their own adhesive and it takes seconds to apply each nail.
  2. Pretty Woman 24 Designer Nail Kit: I love this set because it’s flirty, fun and the nails are shorter length. Much power to people who can rock really long nails, but it’s hard for me to type and paint when my nails are longer. This is a great way to include all of us who like to keep things to a certain length.
  3. Sensational Gelvolution Gel Shine Finish Nails: These are the easiest gel manicure you’ll ever give yourself. They give you long wear, apply easily and look beautiful.
