What is Micellar Water? And Why We Should All Be Using It!

I’ll admit it, for most of my life I have had a nonsensical skincare routine. In my teens I would use some bar soap found in the shower to wash my face (gasp, I know). In my 20’s I started caring a bit more and moved onto using soap that was actually designed for the face. Now here we are, present day, I am in my 30’s and have finally knocked some sense into myself and revamped my whole skincare routine. Let me insert a disclaimer – I have been very fortune not to suffer from acne or any skin conditions, I do however get the occasional massive pimple. In my younger years my fear of acne was minimal, but now at 33 the fear of wrinkles is REAL. After searching high and low for the it skincare product, I have finally found it, micellar water.

What exactly is micellar water?

Besides being hard to pronounce, it’s a French word and creation. And, oh how we love the French girl skincare routine. Their skin is always glowing without looking oily or overdone. Micellar water is not a new trend or phenomenon, it’s been around since the 1900s when household plumbing was still not a thing. For French women the thought of putting harsh tap water on their face was a nightmare. That’s why in Paris they came up with a way to cleanse and hydrate their face without using a drop of tap water.

How does it work?

According to top dermatologists and professionals, micellar water is made up of tiny cleansing oil balls, which are called micelles. These tiny cleansing balls are suspended in soft water. Soft water is surface water or rainfall water, which is free of minerals and ions such as: calcium and magnesium that are harsh on the skin. The tiny micelles are attracted to grime, dirt and other oils, thus helping dissolve and remove the pollutants off of the face without drying it out. It is suitable for all types of skin.

How to use it?

Micellar water is so easy to us. All you need is a cotton pad! Simply pour it all over the pad and once the pad is sufficiently drenched, swipe it all over your face and neck. You will see the grime of the day melt away along with most of your makeup. The best part is that once you have cleansed your face with micellar water no need to rinse it. Your skin will be feeling fresh and hydrated without a drop of tap water touching your skin. Post micellar cleanse in the morning, I use a SPF 30+ sunscreen and before bed I use a night cream following my micellar cleanse.
